Look at ICD2 clone in http://www.micro4you.com, it is only RS232 but it works fine for programming and debugging and it's less than US$40.

Another one on MCU Server, see: http://www.mcu.cz/modules/news/article.php?storyid=430
Page in Czech language only, but you can download a PDF schematics.

You can also buy a PIC ICD2clone assembled module or a kit on the International eShop for $64/$44 (Link on the same page or here: https://www.2checkout.com/cgi-bin/buyers/orderpage.2c?sid=127184)

It is fully compatible with the original ICD2 and MPLAB (tested myself).

Lazboy
sorry i did not reply to you sooner
I'm in the process of laying out the PCB for the usb version on Lothar Stolz site but my version will only have 1 smt and thats the ft232 all the ohters will be through hole which will make it easier to make at home unless people prefer all smt

once i have done do you want a copy of it

Be sure to check forums first to see if the chip you want to use is supported.

I've known many peaple trying to go the cheap way by building or buying a clone but in the end it just didnt work...

Hi,

Why not try to get the original ICD2, they are on offer on microchip site.

Best wishes.

Hello

There is also a ICD2 clone at the CCS website (www.ccsinfo.com). They developed the PIC-C compiler and their ICD2 works great.

It is a complete clone so it should be support dsPIC30 too, because original ICD2 also support it.

Where did you find "usbicd2.par" ?
Is it not an rar archive?

usbicd2.par is the bill of material. You can open it with a text editor.
usbicd2.brd is an eagle pcb layout.
