you could also try www.tapr.org or qualcomm. The ARRL publishes an entire book on hacking and building spread spectrum systems. For what it is worth, unless you have staggering development resources, I don't think a couple ICs are going to do you much good. Excellent transceiver that is easy to work with. SPI interface and switch outputs, SPI host takes care of FHSS scheme. I'm building a 10W ~470MHz transceiver pair ATM, but the chip goes to 930MHz. Recommended.
