Title: REQ: Sensoring elevation and/or azimuth
Post by: chuckoo on April 27, 2009, 11:15:36 11:15
Hi folks,

i look for a cheap way to sensor the elevation ( inklination )  and the direction ( aziuth ) of an antenna system  with some sensor like the one found in newer GSM Phones. Does anyone have a cheap (´and low quantity ) source , any schematics or such .. ??

Potentiometer with a long shaft & weight hanging on it makes simple elevation sensor.  Cheap, fairly reliable.
Az can be sensed with another pot or an absolute rotoary.

Tnx Oldvan,
but ..  we have such , milspec pot with ceramic/plasic trace and a weight. It works..until it gets real cold..then it is stuck..
thus we look for something non moving...

OK, how about an accelerometer for EL?

$20.00 for a 3-axis accelerometer here:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120414448874 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120414448874)

Gravity can still provide your reference, but nothing to stick at low temperatures.

Freescale and sample service for sensors is good solutions.....
