Hi omidsht,

From Host side (PC), there is two types of driver:
  • Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers
  • direct (D2XX) drivers

The VCP driver emulates a standard PC serial port such that the USB device may be communicated with as a standard RS232 device.  The D2XX driver allows direct access to a USB device via a DLL interface.
When you'll plug the FT232R breakout, the windows asks you to install a driver (one of both).
If it is your first experiment with the components ftdi, I advise you initially mode VCP... ;)

Regards,
Marineland

hi
diy usb pic programmer has ft232bm chip. ft232 chip is usb to comport converter. so you can use it with serial pic programmer for usb pic programmer.

good days

Can I use any FT product to be USB host?

The FT series cannot be USB hosts, but FTDI makes another chip, the Vinculum that will act as host. See: www.vinculum.com
