has anybody used this shift register with picbasic pro.Iwant to us it with this dual-color 8x8 dot matrix display and don't know where to start.Iwas thinking of using a pic18f2550 or 18f4550 any help you be greatly appreciated anything to get me started would be great

To get the data in the chip you can use the shiftout  instruction with the  \16 parameter. And with a normal output you can control the LE pin.
So you only use 3 pins to controle this chip. And in principle it is not nessesary to use a 18 F part, a 16F part can do it also.
