Lot of Power Electronics/smps Books are there, but Practical smps Circuits are not available all the times. As to build smps Circuit, lot of Practical Knowledge is required and those make the Practical Circuits, donot share those for Commercial bindings or not to share knowledge. Keeping that in mind, I am posting here one Off Line +- 50V Tested Project, incorporating Schematic, Parts, PCB and Assembly Diagram. Those who are interested in smps, can study it for further design and modification. Good Luck. http://rapidshare.com/files/178382889/Off_Line_SMPS__-_50V.zip More to follow... I have gone through the preview and it seems that the Book is useful indeed. However, I was not aware of this Book earlier and collected lot of Books from Net and abroad other than this one. I will try to collect this one and before that if anybody kindly upload it, then it will be useful. I am having a different book named: Switch-Mode Power Converters Design and Analysis by Keng C. Wu. If you require that Book, I can upload. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: tpek on January 22, 2009, 03:42:37 15:42 Thanks Tahmid. I have Keng C. Wu book already.

(500W to 700W) This is the best application note that came to my mind .Thanks http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/an/14827.pdf Its a 1KW pushpull(+inverter) with full design procedure . But since i see you want info about PFC too this gives me the uncanny idea you think offline pushpull . When you think offline you should consider halfbridge or fullbridge . Pushpull will put to much voltagestress on your mosfets . (its very well capable of delivering 700 Watt but from lower input voltages .) Good luck . Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: tAhm1D on March 21, 2009, 07:55:08 19:55 hi friends i need some application notes for ( Piratical design notes or examples ) PFC and Push-pull smps converter. (500W to 700W) Hi,Thanks Walkura is correct. For offline, you should consider half bridge or full bridge and you should use pushpull when stepping up from battery voltage to high voltage dc as the reason is amply cleared by walkura. The application note is good for seasoned smps users. The Books of Marty Brown, Pressman, Mack and Lenk are sufficient for an ardent smps practitioner/user. If some one follow those Books sincerely, no new avenue regarding push pull and other Topologies of smps will be there- everything will be Cristal clear. However, if you require some schematics, those can be provided- no problem. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: gevv on March 21, 2009, 11:23:29 23:23 Thanks tahm1d

You can dissolve the laque and glue's with putting it in either aceton or painthinner for a day . The wire and isolation layers go to trash ,but the core will come out in a way you can reuse it after cleaning . Just put it on a well ventilated place both solvents are far from healthy . If you desolve your brain in the process the core lost its value ;D Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: sohel on April 05, 2009, 09:37:50 09:37 thanks

I wish to share my little experience here. If I want to dismantle a ferrite transformer, I usually do not use chemicals!! Best method to use, is get yourself a small toaster oven and use it to heat up the ferrite thing. after say ten minutes you can take the whole ferrite apart in no time. Try to increase the temp. gradually for the first time, to see which temp. works for you?? I have success 100% all the time. Cheers. Using chemical to dismantle a Ferrite Transformer is clearly illustrated in EPE magazine of July,2006 in page no.34. But I found the system is inefficient and could not be successful in dismantling even keeping the core for the whole night inside a pot filled with chemical. But the system mentioned by jzaghal is somehow is efficient. In that method, when I tried,my success rate was cent percent. I used slightly different method. First, put a steel plate ( locally known as Taba, on which Chapatti is heated) on gas stove/fire. Then put few Ferrite Cores on the plate and keep on heating and after few minutes when a chit chit sound can be heard, then remove the cores from the plate and using some cloth/glove to cover hand as the cores are heated, take the 2 parts of the Core apart safely. Use good hand gloves and use both the hands to make the Core apart with applying necessary force. In this method, you can reuse the copper wire by unwinding the wire from the Bobbin but for that you must have good patience. Hope, this will solve your problem. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: sohel on April 08, 2009, 07:37:24 19:37 Hi Guys, I wish to share my little experience here. Hi mhtplsh, Can you please help me to find out some source for ferrite core type EE/ETD/EI in Kolkata, so that I can collect those from Kolkata. Last time I tried from Kolkata, but could not get it and hence collected from Delhi. In Bangladesh, only ETD39/ECL40 and EI 33 available. So, I had to test high power smps inverter with those using in series. But, it will be better if large sized cores are used. Please help regarding address if possible on your part. I require ETD45/55 or EE45/55 type. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: tAhm1D on April 10, 2009, 10:11:04 10:11 you mean you place the all unit ( metal parts including coils and pins ) . but i heard we cant keep metal parts in microwave Hi rajudp, Experiment by keeping Ferrite Core inside Microwave Oven creates a serious security hazard and should be avoided in any case. The reasons are as follows: Microwave cannot penetrate Metal. Microwave cannot penetrate Metal and object like Ferrite Core. So, if you put any metal container with food inside the Microwave oven, the food cannot be heated and so the wave cannot be absorbed by the food inside. That’s why, metal container is not used inside the Microwave Oven. In this case, if you put Ferrite Core inside the Oven the serious hazard will be the resonance of the magnetron tube itself. Here, the microwave is run without an object to absorb the radiation, and hence a standing wave will form. The energy is reflected back and forth between the tube and the cooking chamber. This may cause the Magnetron tube to 'cook' itself and burn out. A serious fire hazard will be there. Electric Currents. Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic waves, which are oscillating electric and magnetic fields. The oscillating electric fields cause electric currents in metals and other conductors. These currents may cause harm in the walls of the cooking chamber, which may cause fire and damage the Oven itself by damaging the walls of the cooking chamber. Moreover,in this case, the severe electric field may damage the internal structure of the Ferrite Metal itself. So, better avoid experimenting by placing Ferrite Core inside Microwave Oven. It is very dangerous. Better use the Toaster advised by jzaghal or use electric/gas oven. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b0/RainbowCD.jpg/250px-RainbowCD.jpg) The effects of severe electrical discharge through the metal if placed inside Microwave Oven. its your choice, dont test with micro oven. its true that two E55 disassemble with goodluck. its burnt small wire. please dont test it with microwave oven and also sorry for exprement. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: HackerNo.1 on April 25, 2009, 05:42:16 17:42 Hi,

Title: Revolution in Power Electronics Post by: tAhm1D on June 22, 2010, 03:27:31 15:27 Hi,
Earlier there were two notable drawbacks in Power Electronics: 1) The nonavailability of >100V schottky diodes, which creates lot of headache in SMPS in case of switching losses due to turn-off time of ultrafast/fast rectifiers. 2) The nonavailability of IGBTs that can operate at high frequencies. We generally know of IGBTs being switched at frequencies in the range of 20-40kHz max. However ST Microelectronics has recently released two great products: 1) 600V SiC (Silicon Carbide) schottky diodes with current ratings of 4A, 6A, 8A, 10A, 12A in D2PAK and TO220 packages. 2) 600V 35A and 600V 45A single IGBTs in TO247 packages that can operate effectively at frequencies upto 100kHz. These two products are revolutionary in the field of power electronics. For more information go to www.st.com and search up the articles on 600V SiC rectifiers and 600V HF IGBTs. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: carbontracks on June 23, 2010, 02:08:54 14:08 Personally I'm waiting for GaN fets to replace both normal MOSFETs and small IGBTs in power converters. About a fifth of the gate-source and gate-drain charge of normal mosfets, so anything that wants to operate at high frequency is going to benefit a lot from them. They're just now becoming available; the most powerful variety is rated to 12 amps and 200 volts. According to the manufacturer, that's just a starting point and they're scalable up to much higher power levels.
http://epc-co.com/epc/documents/datasheets/EPC1010_datasheet_final.pdf that's the most powerful part I'm aware of, and it's only 1.4x3.6mm. Once these things get bigger, they'll probably take over completely (assuming prices go down somewhat). Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: Rony on March 14, 2012, 06:54:59 06:54 HI
everyone. Can somebody reupload those all pdfs cz Rapidshare has removed those all. Plz plz plz !!!. i didnt get any of those one Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: solutions on March 14, 2012, 09:47:27 21:47 Hi, Earlier there were two notable drawbacks in Power Electronics: 1) The nonavailability of >100V schottky diodes, which creates lot of headache in SMPS in case of switching losses due to turn-off time of ultrafast/fast rectifiers. Hope these products greatly benefit those working in the power electronics sector (especially SMPS). Not a chance - have you priced these diodes? Here, I am posting one Thesis Paper by a student of Queensland University regarding small scale offline power supply using TNY Switch. This is a very useful circuit and I learned many things from this paper. Hope, it will be useful for those who want to indulge in offline small scale smps power supply. If anyone decides to use the Power Integration devices, the PI Expert Design software is a nice little tool for designing the power supply to your specs: http://www.powerint.com/en/design-support/pi-expert-design-software Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: solutions on September 10, 2012, 02:50:50 02:50 Raymond A. Mack, "Demystifying Switching Power Supplies"
ISBN: 0750674458 This book is a crash course in the fundamental theory, concepts, and terminology of switching power supplies. It is designed to quickly prepare engineers to make key decisions about power supplies for their projects. Intended for readers who need to quickly understand the key points of switching power supplies, this book covers the 20% of the topic that engineers use, 80% of the time. Unlike existing switching power supply books that deal strictly with design issues, this book also recognizes the growing importance of "off-the-shelf" commercial switching power supplies, giving readers the background necessary to select the right commercial supply. This book covers the core essentials of power supply theory and design while keeping mathematics to the absolute minimum necessary. Special attention is given to the selection of appropriate components, such as inductors and transformers, to ensure safe and reliable operation. Engineers, whose main design responsibilities are in other areas, will better understand the strengths and weaknesses of switching power supplies and whether such supplies are appropriate for their projects. They will be able to give more meaningful design requirements and specifications to those who design switching power supplies. * Discusses both AC line supplies and DC-DC inverters. * Covers the main switching power supply designs, including flyback, forward conversion, bridge, buck, boost, and boost/buck topologies. * Design examples include a 220 volt offline switching power supply and a 110 volt uninterruptible supply. tahm1D's link was dead, so..... https://rapidshare.com/files/474322959/0750674458.pdf Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: Gallymimu on September 17, 2012, 04:03:00 04:03 Another great resource/device for low power SMPS designs are the National Semiconductor (now TI) Simple Switcher series of SMPS controllers. It hardly counts as SMPS design when you use these but they are pretty cheap and easy to use. They even are going into reasonably high frequencies these days (1MHz and up).
I use them pretty regularly for 100mA to a few amps at 2-20VDC applications. You can often put together a pretty nice buck regulator with only 3-5 components in addition to the controller (which has an integrated power switch). Two of my favorites are the LMR14206 and the LM2596. Title: Re: SMPS RESOURCES Post by: Sideshow Bob on April 06, 2013, 01:31:45 13:31 Raymond A.
