Title: E-Ink display distributor ?
Post by: DarkClover on August 24, 2011, 04:51:07 16:51
Hey eFreaks  ;)

Has anyone a hint for me, where to buy E-Ink displays ?
They'll make a nice look on my E-Bag project.

I had a similar need about 6 months ago and could not find any disty outlets. Would appear that you can buy a dev kit from e-ink ( too expensive) or buy a kindle and hack it up.
I emailed e-ink several times and got zero replies.
Hope you have more luck,
Otter

I see it couldn't be helped. I wonder how they wanna make money with NO SUPPORT.
Well then, I'll have a look for a kindle to hack.

Damn e-Ink company :)

Thanks otter

I haven't seen any flexible ones on the last CeBIT and the colored weren't that awesome.
But if they really release a eReader device, I definitely would reverse engineer that one
cause it's ten times more interesting. Especially for my project.

Hey guys,
I need a little help out there. The kindle is way to expensive for just using the e-Ink display. But I've seen some eBay like stores where only the eInk displays were sold. So if anyone has a chance to get such a display for a good price (as cheap as possible ;) ), please tell me.

At the moment I'm on a cheap Sony eReader (has the same display as the small kindle) and I hope I'll get it for a good price. The next step is reverse engineering that sucker ;)
So wish me luck to get that thing and rip it apart. Maybe there are some other useful things in it like the processor, NAND flashes and so on. We'll see what's in there.

Small update...
The SONY eReader became to expensive so I didn't buy it. Well on the lonely modules, since it's not sure we get a datasheet with them they are useless whcih leaves just one way: to buy a complete reader and tear it to pieces.
If anyone has the chance to get one very cheap, tell me please.

For now I'm preparing a eInk-Display reverse engineering and information blog (everything will be open source of course)

see ya...

Can offer you 5 small Epaper Displays, Resolution ~200x96  about 60x28mm for a very resonable (~15$/pc +shipment) price. Includes full documenation and if required adapter PCBs to easier connect to the FPC cables.
Let me know if you are interested and I will send details.

Regards
Sepp
