Title: Req: MCP2200 USB <> RS485 Bridge
Post by: charudatt on April 08, 2010, 11:46:56 11:46
hello,

Was wondering if anyone has tried to make a project using MCP2200 chip for USB <> RS485 converter.

Basically interested in making a DMX dongle like the Enttec - Open DMX USB Interface.

regards

Hello,
I try to make an open interface USB -> DMX512 with  a pic 18F4550 ou 2550.
Can we work together ?
I prefer use a pic than another IC because it's not difficult to buy a pic than a specific IC.

Ok, the MCP2200 is a new microchip driver.

Hi Folkeu,

There are some very good interface for interfacing the PC - USB to DMX using Atmel AVR's. I personally have successfully built and use uDMX 1.2 USB-DMX Interface http://www.anyma.ch/2007/research/udmx-12-released/ (http://www.anyma.ch/2007/research/udmx-12-released/). Atmel AVR's are cheaper than PIC's in this part of the world ........  ;) but I personally love the PIC's.

Microchip's new USB driver chip seems promising and very simple to use. Its also cheaper than its rival FTDI chips.

I was just thinking if anyone would be interested in cloneing the Enttec - Open DMX USB Interface using this chip.

The hardware could also be a generic USB <> RS485 bridge, not necessarily for use in DMX.

regards

In a device I used this schematic and it works. It is tested with 4 devices. Distance between 30 and 50 meters. Cable used - UTP
