It has 256 white smd led for drawing the world and 32 blue smd led for the message section. That's something entirely different from what I've posted, should have watched the video first. You should look for sites about propeller clocks and the likes, it's based on the same principle. There is a site with a RGB project much like this one at http://home.versatel.nl/edithenwilliam/william/magic.htm It is based around a PIC16F628 but the site is in dutch, maybe you can translate it to a more suitable language with babelfish. I'm Trying to build one, radial, instead of cilyndical check the link.I'm thinkg in a PIC16f877 to controll but i'm not sure if I need a more powerful pic.
However I hope finish the build stage before january.
