Unable to download from http://mihd.net/20xm4c. I am getting "internal server error" at 71%.
Can you re-upload ?

Thanks in advance.

Crack? Why, Pecchè? Task that you have not tried the software otherwise you would not ask a crack that it does not exist!!!

 Smiley
Hi,
 My opinions about Wiz C v.12 are following:
1. Good interface to generate the device initialization routine to set up a microcontroller;
2. Fast compilation;
3. A good simulator to simulate your program;
But there are some shortcomings, for that I switched to CCS.
1. Out of date documentation;
2. New devices are added slowly;
3. Slow support response;
4. Large code size;
5. Less library functions;

These are not SMALL disadvantages. "Large code" size is not acceptable. This leads to slower execution time also.

New devices are added slowly and they want YOUR MONEY in return for that  Angry.
Any way we can crack that but they are not providing at least the V14 demo. The link is for V12.

So, use this IDE for simulation purposes and compile your project on other Professional (?) compilers like Hi-Tech, CCS etc.

BTW, why our forum is omitting IAR compiler for PIC ? Is there any reason for that ?

Hi Thiru,

I downloaded WIZ-C & compiled few of my old programs with it. Well, it seems very odd compiler. Optimization is certainly very poor. It implements 'switch' statement as call to function even after generating jump-table inline. Pointer arithmatic is bad & even generated wrong code on some occasions. Bit arithmatic is very poor. Try complementing a bit var from a bit-field,  generates 2 level calls & 2-3 calls to various routines. It is evident that Writer has concentrated more on IDE & Simulator than compiler itself. Though is has some good  ideas- it genrates one single asm file from all C modules, so you can access any global label from anywhere - certainly useful for PIC interrupts.
Simulator is very good. But my vote will be always with HT-PIC.

BTW, I have tried IAR PIC C 2.21A. Nice compiler compared many other except perhaps HI-TECH.
The reason, HT-PIC, IAR are not much popular compared to CCS or mikroC is that they have very little or no device drivers for internal or external peripherals. In my opinion, largest part of  PIC users are hobbyists & they prefer ready-made drivers rather than writing their own. That's why Proton, PBP, mikroC, CCS are so popular & so much attention is given to them, even when these compilers generates larger/slower code due to their built-in drivers. I can give many examples for it, but it's true that for the beginner they seem to simplify coding. In the long-run however, you should switch to better tools.

Ever heard of ByteCraft MPC Compiler ? It is a descent compiler but it receives even less attention.

Excellent analysis. You are absolutely correct.

Here I want to get one thing for your kind notice.

Have you ever seen the comparision given in that CCS site ?
In section 5, IAR and Hi-Tech are giving larger code than CCS.  Huh

I am using Hi-Tech for my projects. That is working well.
But Hi-Tech also has one problem. As the version changes, old code may not work perfectly. Are you also suffering from this problem ?

BTW, what methods you are using to library management, startup code automation etc.  Huh
As I am a newbie in PIC development, can you guide me in those areas ? I think I am not maintaining the library well. This is wasting my time.

Yes, WIZ-C is not a professional compiler. And I am just using that for fun only. Smiley

Any way thank you very much for your analysation.

Hello Thiru,

Well,What can I say ? Such comparisons are not always trustworthy. The company highlights it's strengths & opponent's problems while ignoring their own. Just the marketing tacts. I never believe, until I test the product very carefully.

That's very common thing among compilers. If the new version has drastically improved Grin, code generator then the real-time response of system gets changed. So it is better to stick with old-version for maintaining the past-projects & not re-compiling with  every new version. I backup the tools along with all other project-files at the end. That had saved my butt many times  Wink

I usually donot compile my code to library, especially device-drivers. In my opinion, this is not a good idea for embedded systems, where every project has different requirements & quirks to make them work.

I save them in C or asm format in seperate directory after throughly verfying them(in Simulator & actual circuit) & copy them to working directory whenever I need them. It helps to tweak the code as per project's needs while still being quite sure that code works.  Be careful not to delete any of the original lines, just comment them, so you always know what changes you made.

I will be glad to help, if you be more specific about problems you facing.

sam_des
