Title: Two sided circuit boards and surface mount
Post by: solutions on April 18, 2013, 01:47:41 13:47
You know the guys who keep on asking about home brew two-sided methods, forging on stubbornly despite advice that it's futile and not worth the trouble vs just giving it to a shop to do?

Now you know why a few of them, not all obviously, don't want a shop to make the boards

Is that what they found in Boston?

yes and they also just released the pics from a security video of the 2 who they believe did it.

Made in the small country of China. Good luck tracking that down.

Did you notice the nails and ball bearings in the pic, that they used as "enhanced shrapnel"?

Who's good at reverse engineering the schematic for that board? I'd guess they used a 555 as a one shot, with arm and trigger switches.

Easier than you might think. Shipping from China to Boston is only by courier service to a physical address.

Hi!
I hope you don't mind, if I try and give my own/personal answer to question in the first post.
Giving the designs to a shop to make the PCBs are a good thing. Some for them are fairly cheap, fast with acceptable quality. But I think knowing how to make you're own PCB are almost essential for Electric Engineers.
I quite often make my own PCB for prototyping/testing some of the modules for the projects that I'm working on. For that always ordering it will just make the process just slower and more expensive. After I'm done with the prototyping I'm going to order the PCBs.

And, of course, you properly dispose of your chemicals, including the copper that was etched away, vs just pouring/washing them down the sink or toilet....

There's another thread for two layer boards discussions. This one's intent was that sometimes people do things they don't want to be seen by anyone, or for evil purposes like killing people - whatever their reason for doing so.

The guy they caught, the guy they killed, were not electronics hobbyists. They had help or were provided their equipment by an organizer (a cell was uncovered in the same area in 2010).

It'll be interesting to see what the authorities uncover as far as the support they needed to plan, acquire, and deploy. Could even have been the FBI themselves....

Despite what he did, I feel sorry for what he is going to be put through by the torture squad. Was a time when the US was above doing that.

I couldn't spotted the complicated ICs.
Just contain with passives and transistors.
