Title: New microcontroller sections arrangement
Post by: DarkClover on February 21, 2011, 12:44:07 00:44
Hello!
I love this site and I'm really happy to be a member here...

However, the sections about microcontroller (AVR, PIC, ARM, 8051, ...) seem to be a little bit messed up.
Maybe they could be rearranged and extended for the future?

I think a structure like the following could be the base:

AVR
--Projects
--Software
--Ask a pro
-- ...

PIC
--Projects
--Software
--Ask a pro
-- ...

I think you get the idea now ;)
This should ease the search and posting very much. The only problem are the old entries
but I think with a little bit of work they could be allocated to the right sections.

And:
Motorola (Freescale)

(I can't be the only person on here that uses 68hcXXX processors)

Mess? You must be kidding.

Software belongs in software

Projects belongs in projects - I could care less about what micro is being used, it's the app and design approach that is interesting and an idea for things to work on or pieces of circuits to learn or use.

I think this site is perfect AS IS and you should enjoy what's here since it will make you think about stuff other than what's in your silo.  Most of the guys here are into many things, which is what makes this site special.  If you only want to stay in your silo, you can, but you won't get the most out of this place.

You want PIC, you want AVR, go to a forum or to a Yahoo Group dedicated to AVR or PIC - there are lots of those out there, but they are not the uniqueness that is Sonsivri.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I don't want just a section for AVR and PIC. It's free to the admin, mods and/or the users to decide which platforms will get an own section. I don't work with PIC but ARM, FPGA and AVR.

When you go to a restaurant, do you want food which looks like a good meal or just everything mixed and thrown onto your plate ?
If you don't like carrots but there are pieces everywhere in your mix and you have to pick out everyone of it...... That's exhausting and a lot of work.

=> You have to go through tons of things to GET WHAT YOU SEARCH FOR.  (don't bring up the search engine at this point!!!)

Sure its up to you the poster, you only need to start a topic and if it merits being made a sticky then it, should be.
The only section I see is messed up is Mikro-pic-avr-C-basic-and so on.
We untagged a few topics, when Tagged Topics went on to next page, and people complained.
Remember when Proteus Topic was over 300 odd pages, bbarney took an age trimming it down, its now being kept down to about 5 pages.

Also there are a few people that want to start a new topic for each and every post they make.
I think its working at this Moment in Time, But this may change when/if things happen.
I do think, we take note what people say, but other things take priority and things seem to change slowly.

words and Views of me Pickit2
(like we have a life outside the forum)

The problem isn't the section's or the search but the way people here fill in the "Subject " line at the top of their post's to begin a new post.
They type in somethings that make no sense when searching later ,if they gave 1 sec and thought about searching for a file later they would definately change the wording as an example " really cool little blinker project " verus " Pic12f675 led blinker "
when you come here searching for a pic blinker which one you think you'll find first ?
Sure i could go in there and change all the Subject lines to make sense and make thing's easier for you guy's searching but i would need to read every post then change the line, sort them out ,clean out the useless crap etc and by the time I was 1/2 way done I would be muting way to many people  ;D bottom line is it's much more work than you relize ,sure I could use the overtime but Sonsivri has put a freeze on overtime  ;)

Well then.... it was just an idea.
It seems a bad one....

However, since this is garbage according THE RULES we should tear these bytes into
peaces and spread it over the byteyard of the servers harddisc. May it rest in peace
and clear space for the birth of a new and better topic.

It wasn't a bad idea ,just a lot of work to make it happen and I suppose it could be done over time if one had the the time
