Title: Fastest configuration for PIC18f4550
Post by: tzehon on August 27, 2009, 07:29:51 19:29
Hi,

May i know what is the best combination (crystal) and setting (pll) to get 12 mips (48mhz) at PIC18f4550 ?

And how we can overclock a PIC ?

regards,

Hi,

Thank you for the document,

If i use 48MHZ crystal, does the microcontroller will become faster ?

Do i hav to provide clock to USB if i dint use the USB feature on the chip?

and how can i overclock the PIC to have speed faster than 12 MIPS ?

Higher speed crystal == overclocked.

If 12 MHz crystal and 4X PLL gives 48 MHz,
try a 12.5 MHz crystal and 4X PLL for 50 MHz performance.
Experiment with progressively higher frequency until either the
chip gives off smoke, does not oscillate, or you get the performance you need.

Add a heat sink to the chip to remove the extra heat, it will last longer.
