Title: PIC32MX1xx and 32MX2xx support for pickit 2 ?
Post by: Skarden on June 02, 2013, 08:15:53 08:15
Hello all,
does someone has been able to implement the support for these chips using "PICkit2 Device File Editor" ?

It works using pic32prog.exe but the it could be interesting also to include the support in Pickit2.exe.

Thanks

Microchip is strongly recommending using Pickit3 for their new devices. Have a look on their web site.

Regards

Pickit3 is lame, they need to reprogram every time before changing processors.
Having both, I tends to use the PICKIT2 more often.

I have been working with PIC16F88x for some time, and it seems that PICKit2 is faster than PICKit3 as well when it comes to programming time, I don't understand why PICKit3 is very slow compared to PICkit2, and they say that on larger chips PICKit3 is faster, I have not tried that.

I had never use PIC Kit 2 but listen it is wonderful amazingly fast and have lots of features like one can use it as Logic Analyzer also.
I am using PIC Kit 3 and its really very slow, but we have to use it as Microchip has discontinued the firmware updates for PIC Kit 2 for New Controllers specially PIC32MX Series.

Have a look at the link, below this guy has compared PIC KIt 2 with PIC Kit3
http://www.eevblog.com/2009/10/21/eevblog-39-pickit-3-programmerdebugger-review/

But Still we have to use it.

If you are interested in programming speed, on the basis of my experience, the quickest option of using bootloading. For 8-bit controllers project AN1310 Microchip ideal. If the project is an 8-bit controllers, I tend to use the names of his step debugging.

It is a pity that no similar option for 16 and 32 bit controllers.

Hello,
I know that these chips are supported by Pickit 3 (I already own one), but my question concerns the PICKIT 2.
As I said, it's possible to program PIC32mx1xx and 2xx using the pickit2 and the utility pic32prog, but the question is the implementation of the support in the utility pickit2.exe.

Good news, Microchip have just release a new utility V3.10 for the PICkit3 with almost the same functions than the old one for PICkit2.

Bad news, it does not support more chips than the PICkit2 did...

I think that the best way to do is to raise a ticket(Microchip Support) and if they are willing to help, that would be awesome. Did you tried?

The pickit2 is not in the active device list of tools. any support given would be very limited.
FFS microchip can't even fully support the pickit3.

BTW, I noticed sth yesterday in PICKit3 settings in MPLAB, the default behavior is to erase the flash, if you uncheck this option, PICkit3 becomes much faster.
