Title: Help: Any low cost solution to expand Pic32 EC kit?

Hello dear board members,

I have just got my hands on Pic32 based embedded connectivity (EC) kit. But as of now its not much useful for me as - I don't have any low cost way to expand its IOs.

Microchip have few expansion boards but those are more costly.

I was thinking if there is any other off the self or cheap solution available (provided my soldering skills sucks)... my first thought was to know what is the connector type and have some flat cable connector to some general PCB to access the pins...

So if any one on the board can help me identify the type of connector and if share any such cable and pcb details would be helpful...

Hello electrojit,

there is no special secret about this connector.
On Pg.25 of the User Guide:
J1 Hirose FX10_ 168-pin Header Hirose Electric Co Ltd FX10A-168P-SV1(71)

These sort of connector is used on FPGA-boards too.
But im afraid there is no cheap solution.

The parametric search at Hirose should provide mating types for this connector.
In similiar cases i was able to get a sample(s) from the (connector-)maker* and
build my own adapter.

The male receptacle without ground plate and with guideposts is Hirose PN FX10A-168S-SV. The female header without ground plate and with guideposts is Hirose PN FX10A-168P-SV1(71). They cost about $7.50 each from Mouser, but these parts have a 0.3mm lead width and a 0.5 mm lead pitch, so they can be tricky to solder in place.
